Beekeeping is more than just honey: it is a vital resource. In rural communities where access to land or crops is limited, it provides a vital source of income and independence.
The UNESCO and Guerlain “Women for Bees” project provides women in UNESCO biosphere reserves around the world with training in sustainable beekeeping, as well as equipment and bee colonies, enabling them to become skilled beekeepers and environmental stewards, thereby creating sustainable livelihoods.
To date, 127 women have been equipped with beehives and have acquired the skills to manage them, making bees a bridge between economic empowerment and biodiversity protection.
These women are not just harvesting honey: they are cultivating a deeper harmony with nature, proving that sustainable livelihoods and environmental protection can go hand in hand.
